Journey from hell

Went in to visit DB, they had moved him at 5.30am. He had been sat out all morning and walked to the toilet. 

Journey home was just as bad, over an hour each way, the hospital is well over to the east in Leicester and not easy to get too.

 Not heard from him this morning. I had told the nurse to look for the signs he was having a vacant moment, she told me this morning he had one just after I had gone, just how I said it would happen. Apparently he was OK when I rang.

DD2is coming up this afternoon, guess she will have a little visitor with her. She brings him to see us as much as she can.

I spent a quiet morning reading and catching up with financial matters. 

Quiet day

spent mosly resting as I did not sleep well Thursday night. Better night last night, was exhausted.

DB did not have a good day yesterday and has been moved to another hospital, more difficult to get to and a long walk down the corridor and up one floor. Apparently they took him at 4am this morning, guess he was not too happy about that. I rang the ward, he is ok just now how long that lasts, difficult to say. I am going in this afternoon to see him, will take thw POA with me, so they know I have power of attorney and need to contact me.

So will report in the morning how I found things. I have arranged a wheel chair to save me the long walk.........

 

Not a good day

I nipped out this afternoon for some shopping, when I got back DB was on the floor again. Apparently he had gone to the toilet and collapsed as he went to get back in his chair. Long story short he went to hospital. I phoned he had gone for a scan

He emailed this morning, no damage was waiting to see if they were going to send him home. One thing I have decided is that I need to have someone come in for a couple of hours to sit with him so I can get out. I have a feeling that I can get a grant from the council for this......am waiting to hear from the Carers people to see what they say.

He has been told he has to drink more, he will do it for a couple of days and then let it fall off........I am going to put a reminder on Alexa for him to have a drink every hour.

Of couse I did not sleep, 3 1/2 hours was all I managed, so feeling tired myself.

I need to finish sorting the secod bedroom, I have bookcases to move, they are not heavy and they should slide across the floor ok. I can then start sorting the rest out. I have permission to put the broken down boxes in an apartment thats vacant at the moment. Its up for rent £2100 a month!!!

No idea about supper, will wait and see if DB is sent home.

Phew

yesterday was very warm again.......this morning it started off bright and sunny. There is a strong wind and grey clouds scudding over, so hopefully we are in for some rain.

Yestaerday afternoon I went to the Drs for my annual check, Tim kindly stayed with Edwin, he did not have a good day yesterday. I am thinking that he is depressed, as he can no longer get out.......I did notice last night he was ok whilst watching TV. This morning at 11.00am he is asleep again. I know he is frustrated that he is not allowed to walk on his own, but after his fall on friday he is still very shaky on his legs.

I plan to start on the sewing room, may do a bit this afternoon, but I really need to move two bookcases befor I cab really get going. That means I have to move several boxes, whish I had seen where they put the book cases, I couls have got them to put them somewhere else more convenient. I want to put a bed where they are now.

Supper pork with peppers and rice tonight. I will have to do a small shop for orange juice and some fruit maybe tomorrow or Friday.

Late posting

been busy but no idea ar what. I did  Load of washing this morning, had a Drs appointment this afternoon, everything ok, need to take more exercise, but they realise its not easy with DB being house bound.

Tim came to sit with DB whilst I was out. He has offered to sit with DB whilst I go to a coffee morning which is very nice of him.

Rather tired, think the last two weeks are catching up with me, so will be taking it easy from now on. I need to tackle the sewing room but by bit.

Supper, fish, new potatos and sweet corn. DB can have ice cream for dessert.

Things are progressing

 Cleaner here this morning, I put her hours up to 3, the apartment has 2 bathrooms and the rooms are bigger than the bungalow.

We now have a tidy bedroom and an almost tidy sitting room. I have to sort the bookcase out, possibly tomorrow, then it will be tackle the sewing room. I have more room to move about, sort boxes etc.

It's another very warm day, our sitting room faces south, south West, so curtains drawn and fan on.

Supper tonight cold chicken and salad. We have finished the strawberries, so just ice cream for dessert.

The Clearing Out.........

continues, the plastics cupboard today, made a bit more room.

After yesterday decided to have an easy day today, have cooked the chicken for tonight, will reheat it in the gravy, have cauliflower cheese and new potatoes to go with it, will finish off the strawberries for dessert with some ice cream.

DB was up yesterday afternoon, still a bit wobbly on his legs especially when he first gets up and last thing at night. He is using the walking frame just now, better support than his stick. Each fall he has sets him back again...... but at least they agreed that he did not need to go to hospital. He has a couple of small bruises on his hip, the headache and pain in his neck has gone.

Slept a bit better last night, was exhausted.......I would like to get the sitting room sorted today and then I can take each day as it comes, unpacking the sewing room.

I have a few more books to put in the bookcase, DB has agreed that I can tear up and shred the old diaries we have kept, will just keep 2024 for referring back to.

Its a cooler day, the sun is just out, was quite cool this yesterday, have not had the french door open for a couple of days. Did not water last night, will do it tonight. Not sure when our neighbours are back, late this week I think.

Cleaner is here tomorrow, so bed change, need to get in sync for her coming to change the bed, so 2 lots of ironing this week. Am still struggling a bit with the washer, not easy to set. I did manage to set it to part dry some bed linen, finished it off on the airer. There are drawbacks to living here, but the extra space and ease of being bale to move DB makes it worth it. Two bathrooms are a luxury, it means I can shower if the carers are here getting DB up and dressed. No rushing about to get showered before they come.

My tablet is not behaving itsself, very slow loading things again, am having to use firefox as my search engine.

I picked up 4 books from the library yesterday, they should keep me going for a bit.

 

I knew it

last night I went through to the bedroom to take DB's book, a clatter from the hall, he had fallen and could not get up!!! called the help service and someone came quite quickly, closely followed by the Ambulance.

They got DB up and into his chair whilst they checked him over, made him walk with his walker up the passage and back. He refused to go to hospital, I agreed, so he was put to bed. Need;ess to say I did not sleep too well. They were concerned that he had a headache, he has spodylosis in his meck, so guessed that was causing the pain, he had a couple of tablets.

I decided he should stay in bed this morning, cancelled the carers for today. I did nip out to collect his books from the library and pick up some rolls, he had been asleep all the time I was out. Ate all his lunsh and settled down for another snooze.

I have managed to move the settee and the bookcase, am now trying to sort out how thw books went so I can empty a couple more boxes, that just leaves the TV to sort.

It will be beans on toast tonight for supper, have some strawberries left so will finish them off.

More stuff sorted

The linen cupboard and console table arrived at lunch time yesterday, Once they have been to collect the bed guard DB no longer needs and the curtains are changed I will photograph it.

Was very tired last night. DB woke me coughing, took me ages to get back to sleep, hoping for better tonight.

Have sorted out the linen etc, more space on the shelves in the walk in wardrobe now, need to get the biggar steps to sort out the side with the Christmas decs on.

DD2 is coming up tonight, will try and sort out the sitting room. I have a load of stuff to go to the charity shop, I have the small trolly here so will put the boxes on there and have a trip down the road and round to the post office to draw the money for the cleaner on Monday.

Once I have the sitting room sorted and we decide what to do with the TV things will be a lot better.

I sacreficed my dual air fryer, chap bought it yesterday, so a bit more room in the kitchen. I need to see the manager about getting the TV up on the bedroom wall, then find the controls......I know they are here somewhere. I also want to shed some of the plastic stuff I have there is too much in the cupboard, hopefully I can condense 2 into one and then put the  mixer in so its off the work surface.

My back was not happy yesterday but seems ok this morning, just have to keep sitting down for a few minutes.

I watered the pots last night, collected some more tomatoes DB eats them whole, I think they are gardeners delight. Our friend in Edinburgh used to grow them and eat them like sweeties.......

Frugal Queen whose blog I have followed for many years, is also moving, down to the south west of France....... they have sold their house in Brittany and all the furniture except their bed. They have hired a van for the boxes they have packed and are travelling down over 2 days to sign for their new house and get the keys. Buying property in France is very different from here. I will be thinking about them over the next week.

DD2 is bringing fish and chips tonight for supper.......so no cooking for me!!

Today is the day

we get the small console table and the linen cupboard delivered, then the bedroom will be fnished and I just have to get the bookcase in the sitting room moved to its final resting place and tweek a few other things, then just the sewing room to sort which I can do at my leisure.

I have managed to find someone else to iron the sheets, sending them to the laundry was just too expensive...... £140 a month. No way could I afford that. The lady who has agreed to iron for me charges £25, { do not change the sheets every week......every second week when the cleaner comes. Not ideal but I just cannot manage it myself.

Not such a good night last night, although the weather has cooled down and we have just a sheet and quilt , no duvet, on the bed, I was hot. I have a heat rash which is causing problems which does not help.

DB has started on his walking programme, walking down the corridor with the walker twicw a day. 

DB has asked for sausage, mash and beans for supper, so will have to get the sausage out of the freezer.

 

We have rain!

Woke this morning to rain, hooray, it's badly needed, it appears to be clearing just now, signs of blue sky.

A bit more unpacking done, a couple of boxes emptied, more stuff for the charity shop. 

DR'S carers was a bit later, first time she has come, so  late start for him. We are starting a new routine, he is going to walk with the rollator up and down the passage outside the flat twice a day for the rest of this week, then we will move onto the longer passage. Once he can walk both passages we will look at outside. The physio is coming today, so need to get her to sort out various things for us.

My back decided it was not happy last night, so an easy couple of days in view. 

The bedroom stuff is due tomorrow, so a chance to get much more sorted and more boxes emptied.........once the sitting room and bedroom are sorted I can gradually sort out the sewing/bedroom, it's full of boxes and other stuff.

Meals are a bit haphazard at the moment, not sure what we will have for supper, it will be rolls at lunchtime, possibly salad again tonight.

So..........

We have moved in, the place was rammed with boxes, thanks to DD2 a lot of boxes have gone. The weather has been so hot, regular rest stops for drinks was essential. Our bedroom is almost complete, just waiting for a delivery on Thursday and the room will be sorted. DD2 has been today and sorted out all the clothes into the walk in wardrobe.DB uses the en suite, I use the shower room. Works well, I can shower and be dressed to get the breakfast by the time DB comes through.

I have had to do a real chuck out in the kitchen, shed a lot of things, some to the carers, and some to others. I have two boxes ready to go to the charity shop. I also have to get used to the fact I no longer have 2 freezers.

Had to have BT in to sort out the Internet and the TV chap in to sort out the TV, at least now DB can watch the TV and get onto his tablet.

I agreed to water our neighbours tomatoes, they have gone away for 10 days, in return I can pick any ripe ones. We ended up bringing several pots with us, they are on the patio, once it's sorted I will take some photos. I found some herb seeds, so will grow parsley and basil on the kitchen window cill. 

We have had several very hot days, yesterday was cooler, sun blazing today.

So all in all a bit stressful, DB continued to nag about doing things, or asking if I had found various bits and pieces.

The carers returned on Friday night. The guest suite was  very comfortable, may be we should have booked it for a week whilst we got things sorted.

The last post

until we are in and the router has been activated. I have been to the hodpital, it looks as if it might be the New Year before my pacemaker get changed. I have 4 months left on the battery.

Its another very hot day the fans are going good style. DD2 came to sit with DB whilst I was away. She brought Emillio with her. I was home by 10.45 which was good. Going up to the flat after lunch to take plates etc with me and stuff from the fridge, I want to empty the fridge if I can so I can clean it out for DD2 its going to her tomorrow. I also plant to take enough for salad for upper tomorrow night. No carers tomorrow at all, I have it all to do myself. Cat lick in the morning, a proper wash before bed and anither cat lick Friday morning. The carers are back Friday night to the new address.

Cheese sarnies for lunch today. Sweet and sour chicken tonight........the remains of my birthday cake to our neighbours next door and across the road.

 

Another blistering day

Its hotter than ever today, there is a breeze but it does not do much........DB is driving me nuts with the runs..........no idea whats set him off, he has not had anything different to eat.

Tomorrow I go to the hospital for my pacemaker check, see how long they leave it this time. I am very tired but then I am not surprised considering the amount of stress I am under.

I need to go to the flat tomorrow to take the router up and plug it in the conection is going to be made over tomorrow night. The service ehere will be switched off.

No sure if DB will want supper will check before I start to cook it, I have had to waste too many meals lately because he cannot chew meat.

 

Hot, Hot, Hot

temperature has rocketed up today. Thankfully it cooling down now.

I collected Trevor for his last visit this morning, called into the flat to put washing on and leave a large container. Late yesterday I discovered more pots down the side of the garage, we cleared them all plus T broke down a picnic table, two journies and they have all gone.

I took Trevor home and called at the flat to leave a pair of curtains and empty the washer, its all hung on the airer in the second bedroom. Stuff that was left is now hanging in the walk in wardrobe.

Cleaner Clare is coming tonight to collect the freezer, I need to move the car so they can reverse the van down to the garage.

We are not having supper tonight, will finish off the cream tea from yesterday, I gave Trevor a piece of my birthday cake with his bacon sandwich at lunch time.

So the rest of this week is going to be hectic, I have to take paper work in to the Council on Friday and also deposit a check in the Bank, so DB will have to look after himself for an hour or so.

 

And so it goes on

after 2 days off I am now back to working mode.........I will go up to the flat whilst DB is having his rest after lunch. I am cooking at lunchtime as we have a Cornish cream tea for afternoon tea. My birthday treat from DD2.

I plan to take a load of laundry up and wash it whilst I am there will leave it on the airer to dry. Will also take the silver cutlery up, we will need it thursday night for our supper, just what we are having I really do not know as yet. Might be salad with something, possibly hard boild eggs. I will take the salad stuff up on Wednesday and leave it in the fridge ready.

The forecast is for a very hot day tomorrow, so will collect Trevor early so he is home by the time the temperature reaches its height. Quite a bit of final clearing up to do. Will call at the flat on the way back and drop off some garden stuff, I can put the pots on the patio, out of the way. Will get the removers to take the heavy pots.

Lunch today is gammon, roast poato's, peas, sweetcorn and parsley sauce. Doubt we will need dessert.

Power cuts

 there have been several power cuts locally, this morning I went to the library, it was closed, they had a power cut and were having to wait for the computers to come back up. I did eventually get in, deposited some books back and collected one for me and two for DB.

He is sleeping quite a lot just now, I hope he is going to improve once this move is over. I finished thaking the grow house to pits its all in a plastic bag ready for Bonnie to pick up. There is still some more stuff to get rid of. Will get Trevor to help me load the car on Monday and I will take it to the tip.

The dish washer was collectedn this morning, so thats the last of the big things from the house to go.

Belly pork and rice for supper tonight, no idea about a dessert......

Feet up

Another day off for me although still having to sort stuff out, the sitting room curtains arrived this morning. I will have to get my cleaner to sort them out and put them up.

Another resonable night, just over 7 hours, have to be up early tomorrow, they are collecting the dish washer. I have started to wash the pots etc by hand again, breakfast and lunch are not too bad, its the pans etc for supper that floor me.

DB seems to be spending more time sleeping just now, I know he is bored, but hopefully that will change next week...........

Have to finish taking the plant house to bits and put it in a black plastic bag. I also have some more bits to collect to take to the tip on Monday morning.......sorting Thursdays supper out as well, will get a ding dinner from Aldi and leave it in the fridge ready for when we get there,  it will get done in the oven, the microwave will be in the van.Will also put the two folding tables in the car along with everything for breakfast on Friday morning. I need to make a couple of lists, so I do not forget anything.............

Supper tonight, fish, mash and parsley sauce. Have stopped doing chips for DB, he moans he cannot chew them.
 

Quiet Day

I am so exhausted I am having 2 days off. The drier was collected this morning. The dish washer disconnected last night, so thats everything disposed of apart from a few bits out of the garden. I need to bring the plants round that I am taking round to the front, so they do not get left behiind. I have one more trip to the tip with a picnic table and chairs plus a couple of other bits, will go Monday morning, that seems to be a less busy day.

I cooked a gammon joint yesterday, so will slice it this afternoon, salad for supper tonight and will keep back a couple of slices for Sunday, the rest will go in the freezer.

Its a bit of a funny day, sun keeps coming and going. A slight breeze, so hopefully not too hot. I am not taking DB again when I go to the flat, yesterday I took him and had to  bring him back before I had finished sorting stuff out. He was complaining about chest pain. When ever he gets worked up he gets chest pain, its in the wrong place for a heart attack, so 2 pain killers and a snooze later, and he was ok. 

Chap collected the dryer this morning is an odd job man, so he will put shelves and the curtain rail up for me once we get settled........a good job out of the way.

21st of August the linen cupboard and a console table will be delivered, everything will be ok then, we can just settle down and start 'living' again in the knowledge that  until Edwin shuffles off this earth we will not move again.

Gammon and salad tonight, might make oranges in jelly for dessert.

I need to get off the merry go round

 Another busy day, a visit to the tip with more cardboard and also plastic pots etc. I have to try and get the grow house apart, I have someone who would like it. I also put the wall unit on the local page for free, someone has asked for it. Another thing gone.

I went over to the flat in the afternoon, took some stuff from the house freezer, collected some of the dry washing to bring home, I was running out of knickers. Another visit today with bed linen and towels for the two bathrooms.

Its a warm morning but with a breeze, so not too bad. I was going to do shepherds pie tonight but doing mince and tatties instead, I have some veg to eat up.

Window cleaner came this morning, so paid him and told him to wait until the new people were in before calling again. The lady also came for the shelves.

Cupboards are gradually emptying, I will start on the under sink cupboards next, just leave what I need for next week.

Have to take the grow house down for Bopnnie tonight, thats if I can get it apart. I have an extra cover for it and also a winter cover somewhere.

Not so bad

The weather was not as bad as it was forcast, we did have periods of heavy rain and high winds, but inspersed with sunny spells.

This morning it is sunny and the temperature is rising, we still have quite a strong wind.

DB continues to ignore any requests to keep quiet and stop pushing for various things to be done......I put in the postal re-direction at 10pm last night to shut him up.

Needless to say when I got into bed my back siezed up again, I had to stagger into the kitchen, holding on to furniture to get a drink!!

Off to the tip with the last of the cardboard, I hope. The wall shelves came down yesterday, none of the charity shops will take them despite asking for furniture....... so its either broken down and goes to the tip or I leave it in the garage.

There is still some clearing up needed in the garden, plastic pots etc destined for the tip, I need to collect them in a poly bag. I am going to take one trough with us and a couple of plant trays, I can put on the window cill in the kitchen with herb plants on. I am also going to  take some of the potted plants to stand on the small patio.

Supper tonight is beef casserole, I am going to do dumplings rather than mashed potato. No idea about a dessert.

Its raining

 But not too heavily. Cleaner is here, she has taken down all the shelves and the TV down and holes filled in.

I tried to do too much yesterday, ended up with my back giving me gyp. Sorry about the spelling mistakes yesterday, did not proof read before I posted it. The house is like a tip, but it can stay like it, we are moving in 10 days. Had to ring the DVLA re my driving license, changed our address, so it will go to the flat, now have to contact the electric company  re the switch over.

The wind is blowing fit to bust, expecting heavy rain later this afternoon.

No idea what's for supper, will sort something out.

Hopefully a quieter day

This morning I went down to Aldi for stuff I needed to take to the apartment this afternoon when we go. Seperated the stuff out so have left whars going in the boot along with the stuff from under the sink and the duvet and pillows for the 2nd bedroom.

Not such a good night but almost 7 hours so not too bad.

There is a storm warning for tomorrow, so I will be nipping up between the showers to take some more light stuff, will put the blind down in the second bedroom, so no one can see the mess in there.

Supper tonight roast chicken, roasd potatoes, cauli and calabrease. 

 

I just want some peace......

DB has started again, its driving me nuts........washer went yesterday evening, the rest of the garden stuff has gone today.........there is just the stuff to go out for the bin men on Monday. I have bagged up some stuff to go over to the flat/apartment, mostly stuff from under the sink. Scrapped the floor where the washer was and hoovered and mopped it so thats clean. DB is now hastling me to ring about getting the dryer and dishwasher taken away. It grieves me to have to lose the dishwasher, but its just too big to fit in any of the cupboards.

This morning DB asked me what we were going to do for food the day we move, typical!!! I will address that later.

I don't think Trevor will be coming on Monday we are forecast to get heavy rain, no point in brining him over for him to spend most of his time sitting in the garage. I hope to empty the garage freezer tomorrow, might manage to get it cleaned so Clare can take it when they are here on Monday. Will also be sorting out what else can go over into the freezer, its only 4 baskets, so smaller than the two I have already. Am gooing to get a man and his van to take that one to DD2 the day before we move, will use the cool box for the milk etc.

Off to the tip with the boxes this afternoon.........

Another busy morning

Carer was reasonable early this morning, we had viewings booked, so after breakfast I went round and cleared up what I could. The boxes for the sewing machine are now in the car ready to go to the tip tomorrow morning, I will then go on up to the flat with the contents of the garage freezer and put it in the freezer there. I think the curtains in our present living room will go in our bedroom, the windows are not quite so big. DB really likes them so that will save me having to buy at least 1 set of curtains, they were made for the sitting room window and were quite expensive, so pleased that decision has been made. We have got permission to put the TV up on the wall in our room, so thats ok. I was horrified to note that the meter for the electric was a pay as you go. I have never had to do that, so asked to get it changed.

We had 5 viewers, the letting agent showed them round, she made particular emphisis on the garden...... she had looked up the old photos after she did the inspection the other week.

Gosia came and took pots and plants, I gave E a set of hand tools so she can work with Gosia in the garden, they also took the electric weediller.

It was after 1pm before we got lunch, so supper will be late tonight, after 6pm I think, the usual fish and chips, DB will have to just have ice cream for dessert.
